Nasty gene found in existing GMO crops.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has only just discovered that the most common genetic regulatory sequence in commercial GMO crops includes a large chunk of a viral gene (Gene VI) which might not be safe for human consumption and may disturb the normal functioning of crops.
But do they recall all CaMV Gene VI-containing crops?  Do they revoke importation and planting approvals until they know whether it’s safe or not?
No, they’re just going to carry out a “retrospective risk assessment” and hope it turns out ok.
